New York Governor, Andrew M. Cuomo, directed that Metro-North Railroad (MNR) issue a design-build contract to expedite this Enhanced Station Initiative project’s delivery. The project was funded by MTA’s 2015–2019 capital program. In December 2017, MTA MNR awarded this $91.5 million design-build Metro-North Railroad Enhanced Station Improvements contract to Halmar International.
Design-build delivery allowed for the development of a new Station Standard and aesthetic for MNR. The preliminary designer incorporated industry best practices, design innovation, and a focus on the customer experience to the bridging documents. White Plains Station is being completely renovated and will become a model for the new standard and aesthetic. New Kiss & Rides are being installed at Riverdale, Port Chester, and Crestwood Stations. The overpasses at Riverdale and Crestwood are being renovated. Harlem-125th St will receive renovations to the restrooms and a new TVM room will be installed.
How has the Design-Build Team, inclusive of, MTA MNR, ARUP and Halmar International worked together in delivering the rehabilitation and enhancement of these six (6) stations? The DB Team will discuss the MNR scope and Goals of the ESI Program, communication protocols and platforms, design, construction, constraints, unknown conditions, and team innovations used to remedy.
