Transmitting reliable building information through digital models is a rapidly emerging trend. However, there can be significant risks when digital models are used for purposes for which they are not intended.

If you haven’t yet been asked to share or use a BIM model you likely will be!

  • What are the benefits
  • What are the risks
  • How do we control the risks while achieving the benefits?
  • For what purpose is the model being shared?
  • What does LOD mean and how does it relate to your use of the model?

This session will dive into the latest recommendations on how to clarify acceptable use of electronic data, including CAD files and Building Information Models, for construction projects and how to improve communication and mitigate risk.

Steve Rebholz, AIA, principal of SWBR, will present examples which illustrate the pitfalls that can happen from assumptions and lack of clarity and discuss the use of AIA Digital Practice Document series to address appropriate use of electronic data.
