OP-ED Let New York City build big, efficiently: Streamline contracting through design-build

Anthony Shorris & Dean Fuleihan, NEW YORK DAILY NEWS - Applying Design-Build to existing NYC construction projects would save millions, according to Anthony Shorris & Dean Fuleihan. Citing the success of current D-B projects such as the Tappan Zee Bridge and the Atlantic Avenue Viaduct in Brooklyn, Shorris & Fuleihan estimate transitioning current projects to D-B would result in taxpayer savings of more than $450 million, with a total cost of approximately $7.3 billion over 10 years. Potential projects include section of the BQE we will be reconstructing near Brooklyn Heights could be completed — and associated traffic delays ended — around 12 to 18 months faster.
